Yasou Aida! at the Athens Festival 2012
© Luca Abbiento
Ticket Prices: 20€, 15€ (Discount), 10€ (Students, People with Movement Difficulties)
Advance Booking: June 8
The production that “catapults Aida into the year 2012” and won over the international Press at its Berlin premier is set to make an appearance at the Athens Festival. The changes to the classic opera’s music and dramatic thrust brings Aida into the contemporary era as a young Greek economist employed at the European Central Bank. This “friendly encounter’ between Greece and Germany explores the neo-colonial stereotypes that flourish in Crisis Europe, blurring in exemplary post-modern fashion the lines demarcating composition from performance, tragedy from farce, and classical from contemporary music theatre.
Co-production: Neuköllner Oper, “The Beggars’ Operas”, Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
The performances are made possible by the support of the Hellenic Ministry for Culture and Tourism (Free Theatre Fund, 2011-2012) and the German Embassy in Athens.
With the support of: Hauptstadtkulturfonds, Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband, Regierender Bürgermeister von Berlin, Senatskanzlei für kulturelle Angelegenheiten, Auswärtiges Amt, Goethe Institut, Deutsches Generalkonsulat in Thessaloniki
Accommodation sponsor: Airotel
